Baltic Sea Region 5G Ecosystem Forum ‘’5G Techritory’’ shed light on the 5G topic andits latest technology opportunities worldwide and especially in the Baltic Sea region that awaits us soon. The Forum brought together 700 senior participants and industry experts from all over the world, discussing and sharing the foresight of the new industry that is already introducing so many possibilities to both the society and businesses. The Forum brought together key participants and led to important policy milestones, such as signing the Digital Baltic Road memorandum between the three Baltic States, as well as the first live test of the 5G network by LMT and Nokia.
Today, on September 28,a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Baltic countries regardingthe development of Via Baltica digital corridor for the purpose of connectedand automatized driving and development of 5G technologies. The ministers of Latvia and Estonia signed the Memorandum ofunderstanding during theBaltic Sea Region 5G Ecosystem Forum "5G Techritory" happening thisweek in Riga.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technology (ICT), has launched a new research initiative to identify emerging and future ICT sector network demands, beyond 2030 and the advances expected of IMT-2020 (5G) systems. This work will be carried out by the newly established ITU Focus Group on Technologies for Network 2030, which is open to all interested parties. This open research group will guide post-2030 global vision, innovation and standards for fixed and wireless network systems.

The live demonstration also featured a live showcase of C-V2X direct communication technology operating between passenger cars, motorcycles, and roadside infrastructure. C-V2X is a global solution for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication in support of improved automotive safety, automated driving and traffic efficiency.
Baltic Sea Region 5G Ecosystem Forum “5G Techritory” – one of the leading 5G events worldwide will be held on 27-28 September in Riga, Latvia. 5G Techritory” will have a rather unique objective to create a platform for the Baltic Sea region community, businesses and consumers for the development of a healthy 5G ecosystem which would serve as a role model for building the European Gigabit Society. Elisa has become the first operator in the world to begin commercial use of a 5G network and starts selling 5G subscriptions. The first person to use the 5G network was Anne Berner, Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland, who made a video call to Kadri Simson, Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure in Estonia. The video call is yet another historical achievement by Elisa: the first GSM telephone call in the world was also made using Elisa’s network.
