Viesturs is an urban planner advocating for livable cities and working with strategy and design of smart cities. He is Chairman of the Board at VEFRESH, the largest innovation district in Riga, Latvia. The district was launched in 2019 with the energy of joined forces of district's tech companies, real estate developers and the culture venue, owned by municipality of Riga, "VEF Culture Palace". The VEF district is already an origin of around 40% of Latvia's annual IT export.
Recently Viesturs has been working on the future of academic campuses in Riga and currently researches immersive technologies in city design under auspices of “Augmented Urbans”.
Viesturs holds degrees from the New School and University of Cambridge in Anthropology and Social Anthropology.
