Dr. Suncheol Gweon is currently a Professor and Research Director of the Institute of Convergence Technology at Yonsei University. From 2015 - 2018, he was the President of Giga Korea Foundation (GKF) and managed the National 5G Project, which introduced world's first 5G network deployment in Korea. The total research fund was about $500M, and many areas of research included not only 5G network technology, but also services and devices including AR/VR, hologram 3D terminal, etc. GKF successfully demonstrated the 5G network and services at 2018 the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games.
Dr. Gweon served as an Executive Vice President at Korea Telecom for 23 years before joining GKF. He held several different positions, including the Head of Network Strategy, Network R&D Lab and New Business Strategy.
He has MS and PhD degrees in EE from Seoul National University and Texas A&M University, received in 1985 and 1990 respectively.
